Ah the UGG boot, does any other item cause such a divide in opinion among the fashion loving public? Sadly popularised by the pink velour tracksuit wearing crowd and enjoying a brief affair with the denim mini the Ugg boot has received some bad press from the savvy fashionistas. While their time in the limelight may be over the brand continues to go from strengh to strength and personally I think it is far better that they aren't seen on everybody, splashed across every tabloid as they once were.
These days UGGs come in all incarnations, even sandals. There are a whole host of boots and shoes available that don't look like the classic UGG but that have all the comfy features. I bought these boots pictured recently in the sale, not my usual stylish boot they seemed like a good practical shoe somewhere between a walking boot and a Wellington but with a fur lining. Perfect for the constant wet weather and those of us afflicted with cold toes. I really love them even though they rule out at least half of my wardrobe when trying to put together an outfit.
In the interest of full disclosure I will admit, and this might lose me some fashionista points, but I love my UGGs. As soon as the cold weather sets in I am straight into my fur lined boots. Some people dispise them, akin to Crocs and marmite you either love them or you hate them (incidentally I don't like Crocs). in terms of considering oneself stylish UGGs are relegated to the section of everyone's wardrobe that houses sweat pants and baggy old t-shirts. We all have them, we just try not to make a big show of it.
Have UGG boots been given bad press? Or do we secretly love them? Love them or hate them, what are your thoughts?

i secretly love my faux-uggs, but they break easily so seldom wear them!

I normally don't like ugg boots, but these ones are really nice!
ReplyDeleteRight or wrong, I think their reputation was seriously damaged by the velour tracksuit set, like you mentioned. Most people have that image in their head when they think of UGGs and it's hard to erase. But I have to admit, I fell in love with their sweater boots a few years back. I think the other UGG varieties are fine, it's just the original boots that carry the stigma. :)
ReplyDeleteI actually really liked Uggs when they were super popular, it's a shame their reputation has been tainted!
ReplyDeleteI love UGGs they are the only thing that I wear on Winter! they are comfortable and very very warm! those are my go-to shoes ^^ I don't care if many people wear them, I just love them because they save my cold days haha
ReplyDeleteI love my UGGs - but I wouldn't wear them out and about these days. Mine aren't even true UGGs, they're the cheaper version Office brought out *I think*. I have always loved the shorts, tshirt and UGG combination however, I'm guilty of that. But you'd hardly ever catch me wearing mine. Maybe after I long night out and my feet are killing me - they're very practical and pillow like to walk on, great for recovering feet. Girls at my university wear them. And being in Liverpool, it's a common sight to see the velour and UGG thrown together. Maybe that's what's putting me off?
ReplyDeleteI never owned a pair of Uggs until last winter when I was going on a winter road trip here in NZ and thought they would be good for the freezing conditions - which they were. I really like mine but i do find it hard to walk in them - does anyone else find that once the wool settles they get sloppy?!

My old pair of UGGs are pretty well worn inside so they aren't as comfy as when I first got them but I have had loads of wear out of them so I can't complain :)
DeleteNot a big fan but the ones in the photo are SO cute! Your blog is adorable by the way!

Aw thanks so much :)
Deletei grew up in california. i loved my uggs. i moved to paris. i vowed to never wear them again. i moved back. within four months i caved and got some serious knee high black ones. a time and a place for everything i guess...
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, I think if I lived somewhere where people didn't wear UGGs I would be less inclined to wear mine.
DeleteI really don't like uggs because the suede always looks so horrible & grubby and they are SO shapeless! However those ones in the photos are cute, more like proper snow boots than uggs I think!
ReplyDeleteMy old UGGs have gone like that now, I don't wear them as much because they look a bit too worn lol relegated to walking the dog only!
DeleteI'm an UGG... purist? I love them as slippers, they're fantastic. But every time I go to the shops or the supermarket, there is always at least one girl wearing them, usually with aforementioned denim mini skirt (velour tracksuit never really took off here in Aus, as far as I could tell). Ick!
